Here at Namao School, we pride ourselves with continuing an excellent, award-winning music program including an Elementary Choir and our Elementary and Junior High school bands.
Music
Namao School Choir
Grades 3 to 6 are encouraged to join the choir, which runs from September to May of each year. There are performance opportunities within the school season with in house singing, local Festival entries, and the participation with the Sturgeon Night of Music held each spring.
Grade 6 Band
At Namao School, all Grade 6 Students learn a Band instrument, perform at the Winter and Spring Band Concert, play at local festivals for adjudication and develop their skills to continue in Junior High when Band becomes a complimentary choice.

Beginning Band (Junior High- first year on instrument)
Students perform in many concerts, learn from professionals at the Camp Nakamun Overnight retreat and compete in music festivals. The aim of Namao Beginning Band is to focus on a balanced sound, weekly practice outside of Band rehearsal, creating strong fundamental sounds to build on for the years to follow.

Advanced Band (Junior High - second/third year on instrument)
Students improve their skills as the difficulty of the music increases. Concerts, festivals and a major trip will help fine-tune these skills. Students must have achieved a mark of 60% or better in Beginning Band as a prerequisite for Advanced Band. The events of Advanced Band are numerous and require a higher level of practice and discipline in order to grow as an ensemble.

Jazz Band
Jazz Band is an extracurricular activity. Students commit to weekly after school rehearsals from January to April. Dates for Jazz band will be decided on each new school year. The end result is to perform at the St. Albert Rotary Music Festival in early April for friends and family. This performance is adjudicated and graded.
